Hosting videos from your own site?

Well, it can be costly. I'm not sure if you think a VPS server might accommodate or not. They are cheaper by the month. A decent Dedicated Server can run like the following for about $150 a month, include:

OS: Linux CentOS 64-Bit

CPU: Intel? Core? i5 - 4 cores

RAM: 8 GB

Storage: 2 x 1 TB hard drives

Bandwidth: 10 TB per month

On top of that, you have to take care of the server yourself, or have someone with skills to do so. This includes backups. Generally your DS can handle all of the bandwidth you need, and depending on the sizes of your videos, how much space you will need.

The nice thing about a Dedicated Server is if you need more bandwidth, or drive space, whatever, you can generally easily ad it for an extra cost.

To offset your monthly charges you could resell some of your server and create other web hosting accounts for other web sites. Or, not.

Good Luck!

In addition to what desertcities said

If you can setup a server or have a friend who will do it for you for free then you can look for "unmanaged dedicated hosting" it will be lot cheaper.

And also you need to consider the bandwidth/outline speed required. Normally the bandwidth/outline speed said by the company is shared by other servers also. Those who are not sharing generally mentions it specifically say like "dedicated 100mbps" or "100mbps guaranteed" or "100mbps and above" etc.

Besides you will need to consider the data transfer limit (in desertcities post - 10TB per month). Like for 10TB your 50 viewers will be able to see only 200GB each per month (actually little lesser).

In my opinion Vimeo might be a cheaper and better solution than a dedicated hosting (considering bandwidth, transfer limit and performance).

I want to build a website, My problem is hosting anyone knows how much it would cost to rent a dedicated server to host my own videos. i don't want to use vimeo or YouTube. need like 1Tb of storage and enough bandwidth to serve 50 person at once something like that just need an idea. Wouldn't mind some one breaking down things for me to better understand.
