Just go to http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=401 - find an old English style font you like, download it, and install it on your system. Quit GIMP and restart the program - and wait for it to do its font scan (can take a while so be patient).
Then when GIMP opens, you will have a new font to use listed in the fonts.
