I don't know much about Windows development, but an article in Ars Technica (link below) makes some interesting points about the parade of languages/systems that Windows developers have had to develop over the years.

But what is the reaction in the actual development community? Wouldn't a move to standards like HTML5 and Javascript actually be a good thing in the long run, making Windows development less of a specialized field (.NET etc)?
