Yes, you can learn from Web's links, but it's very difficult to learn PHP by just jumping into a manual and reading. You need to actually practice coding, and that's where the CodeCademy lessons can really help. I've taken the JavaScript, HTML, and CSS courses and have been really impressed with the quality of the courses. Give it a shot!
PHP is simple, but for a programming career look into c# or java.
