Push myself to do something?

This is a common problem for all creative disciplines. There is some good news and some bad news.

The bad news is: Maybe you are not meant to be an 2d animator. You might want to be because you like the idea of creating cool animations, but in reality you simply are not the creative type.

The good news is: Most animators who do it for a living work on somebody else's ideas.

They don't have to think of what to animate, they are told what to do and they just do it.

It may be the case that you don't yet know how to animate, and so you could not know what to do even if you had an interesting idea. Or it could be that your ideas are far bigger than your abilities.

Either way, it might be better for you to start small and first do experimental projects. Think of interesting animation effects to create, more for experience than creating a finished product.

Practice creating walk cycles, and other actions. The point is to get yourself into the habit of animating - anything.

If you start with a big idea in mind, you will immediately become overwhelmed and confused without knowing where to begin and how to do it. Break your big idea into small parts and just work on perfecting each one individually. Once you have worked out all the parts you can then think about how to put them all together into a larger project.

It is easy to imagine an entire movie with all the exciting action and cool effects, but when it comes to actually creating it, it is a totally different situation. It now requires thought, hard work, and lots of time.

You have to put your imagination aside and think about the mechanics of creating every little part of that picture. It can get very tedious, boring, and frustrating, but that is the REALITY of animating.

Just start out small and simple. First learn the satisfaction of completing something, before you try to approach big, exciting projects.

Hey, so I got Adobe flash and I also got toon boom studio. At night or even mid day I think omg I'm gonna make this cool animation but when I get on the software I think I have no idea when to do and I get out of the program and normally get off the computer and do something else. When I grow up I want to be a 2D animator yet I have this problem. Like basically I need ideas what to do and maybe some advice to animate. I want to do this but I'm like almost pushing myself in a way. I'm also impatient and I want that to stop, any help on that? Hope this was enough info! Thanks!
